About the game

Picnic Day

PICNIC DAY is a board game that makes players think about consumer choices and personal finance in a playful way. The main idea of the game is to save money to get to the park with enough to buy the food of your choice and to have the most money left over. At the beginning, the players choose the food they want to take to the picnic, and along the way they have the opportunity to think about their choices, make decisions to solve everyday issues and deal with the challenges that arise. The player who buys the selected types of food and get the most money (Americas) wins the game. The main concept of this game is to save money, work on decision-making, self-control skills, postponement of bonuses and logical reasoning.

PICNIC DAY is a game intended for everyone aged 6 and older. Throughout the game, players face different challenges. When landing on a red space, they must make decisions such as buying two chocolate bars for three Americas (A$3) or choosing one of the selected products from their shopping list and paying only one America (A$1). Landing on a yellow space indicates earnings or expenses in everyday situations, such as paying the electricity bill.

When arriving at the park, the player who manages to buy the food included in his/her shopping list and with the most money wins the game. One may consider that there is an analogy between the game and life: in both of them it is possible to control some things but not others.

Throughout the game, children have the opportunity to think about their choices, make decisions to solve everyday issues and deal with the challenges that arise.

The symbolism experienced in the game works as a resource for introducing or exercising important aspects in daily life, such as choosing proper food and staying healthy, buying, paying and delaying the desire to buy, even in a situation full of challenges and surprises. We hope this experience matters to you too!
